ToeJam and Earl: Back in the Groove on Kickstarter

That's right everyone, one of the best games for the Sega Genesis / Mega Drive is attempting a big return, but this time they are cutting out the publisher and focusing on what made the original game so great. Greg Johnson (one of the co-creators of the original games) and a small team have banded together to create the long awaited sequel that should have come a long time ago. Yes, there were sequels along the way, but they have always deviated from the path that the development team wanted to go. This time around they have gone indie and are keeping it old skool. Humanature Studios have started a crowd funding campaign using a small site called Kickstarter (you might have heard of it) and are seeking a mere $400,000 USD to make this a reality.

The new game, appropriately titled “ToeJam and Earl: Back in the Groove”, will be a game that mainly resembles the original and keeping with that funky, retro style. The gameplay will consist of 2d sprites in a 3d world, isometric view with a fixed camera, and a huge emphasis on coop. They want to keep the control layout simple and straight forward. It will also feature all the funky tunes you could ever ask for What more could you want!?

According to Humanature Studios, ToeJam and Earl: Back in the Groove will initially only be released for PC, but if everything goes well with funding, they hope to release it on all the major platforms. At the time this article was written, they are just about halfway to reaching their funding goals. We wish them the best of luck and really hope to see this game materialize in the near future. Check out the video below to hear Greg talk about the plans for the upcoming game! Also, don't forget to check out their Kickstarter page HERE.
